31 August 1997 - I was woken up by a telephone call from Russell.... I didn't answer the call as I was such a sleepyhead, but I heard the message he left on the answering machine - he just said "Some really sad news... just switch on the television when you get up". That got me curious, and I just reached for the remote control and switched on the television straight away. BBC1 was already reporting the news of Princess Diana's death. From that point onwards, I was literally glued to the television for the rest of the day.
Some people said that they would always remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard about the assassination of John F Kennedy - I was not even born then. That concept didn't really mean anything to me until Princess Diana's death.
